Hello, I’m Eleanor! I thrive in creative, fast-paced environments. My goal is to work on a multimedia team and collaborate with peers on long-form investigations.
I am currently an Indiana Statehouse Reporter with State Affairs and the Howey Politics Indiana. In my role, I covered the convergence of politics and Hoosiers’ daily lives. I pitched, executed, photographed and published stories on topics from natural disasters to fraud, waste and abuse. My specialty included longer-form enterprise stories and midterm election coverage.
Before I moved to Indiana, I was a news and politics reporter at the Minnesota Star Tribune. I covered both Operation Metro Surge and the Medicaid fraud in the Twin Cities. At the Strib, I wrote about a variety of subjects from the intersection of immigration and business to elections and rural internet access.
I contributed to the Annunciation Catholic Church and School shooting coverage that won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News
I graduated from Columbia University with a master’s degree in investigative journalism in May 2025. I was a Stabile Investigative Journalism Fellow at the Graduate School of Journalism. My master’s thesis focused on special education in the Midwest. My classwork focused on investigative health care and political reporting, data and audio journalism, and climate and education coverage. I also served as the journalism school’s library liaison and managed students’ complaints and concerns regarding library facilities and resources.
While pursuing my master’s of science, I freelanced for BankBeat, a banking magazine and website reporting on the Upper Midwest, and Columbia News Service, a New York City-focused news publication.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, I served as a Fulbright Scholar in München, Germany. As an English Teaching Assistant at two Gymnasiums (fifth through 12th grade schools), I prepared lectures and question and answer sessions with my students. I taught classes on a variety of topics from grammar and vocabulary lessons to explaining the U.S. election system and how journalists cover presidential races.
As a Fulbright, I volunteered with the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut in Nürnberg and the Amerikahaus in München. I assisted with a battle of the books program and participated in the “Ask an American” program that creates space for students across Bavaria to learn about the U.S. through citizens’ experiences.
I graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2023 with a bachelor’s of arts in journalism and mass communication and a bachelor’s of science in global health studies. I also earned a minor in German.
While at Iowa, I held five journalism internships and a freelance position. I also worked at The Daily Iowan, the student-run newspaper, eventually serving as managing editor. Additionally, I freelanced for Iowa Capital Dispatch during my senior year after interning at the nonprofit.
