While I am currently a reporter at the Minnesota Star Tribune, I am a seasoned journalist. I worked for a variety of publications in written, audio, video, and visualization work before joining the Strib. My journalistic background includes the publications below:
I cover news and politics in the Twin Cities metro as a reporter for the Minnesota Star Tribune. I covered immigration enforcement in Minnesota during Operation Metro Surge and was on a team chronicling the state’s crackdown on Medicaid fraud. I also covered many beats in my one-year contract, from government accountability to suburban policing.
Before my time in Minneapolis, I was a freelance journalist. My work was published in Iowa Capital Dispatch, BankBeat and Columbia News Service.
My work with Iowa Capital Dispatch began when I served as the publication’s inaugural intern from May to August 2021. My freelance work focused on political, education, and health reporting. Additionally, I made infographics to improve readers’ understanding of complicated Iowa issues.
During my senior year of college, I interned for the eastern Iowa publication The Corridor Business Journal. I wrote various articles and worked on video projects. While maintaining day-to-day work, I focused on longer-form projects and profiles on community members that incorporated multimedia elements.
As a Dow Jones News Fund Digital Media Intern for the Adams Publishing Group, I ran The Herald Journal’s social media pages and created a data base to better understand followers’ engagement with stories and content. I wrote dozens of stories in three months and I created print and digital infographics. I also started a long discussed sports podcast for the newspaper.
At the University of Iowa, I worked for the Daily Iowan for three-and-a-half years. I worked all the way up to a managing editor position after reporting on the news team and working on the digital team as a producer during my freshman year. As news editor for the paper, I planned and executed an extended edition for the university’s 175th anniversary. The edition won the paper a General Excellence award at the Iowa Newspaper Association Awards.
